About Your Tour Guide
Meet Adam
Living on a farm as a child was immersive and made me imaginative and spontaneous. Days were structured ready to respond to the unexpected challenges of rearing pigs and chickens. At school I enjoyed art, history, geography and tennis, encouraged by enthusiastic and energetic teachers.
After school I trained in horticulture and started a business growing flowers, fruits and vegetables with a commitment to organic and sustainable methods. Visiting the nurseries of Beth Chatto and Nick Macer influenced my plantings and admiration of colour, form and texture. The flowers I grew were arranged for weddings and events, having trained with Lady Pulbrook on London’s Sloane Street. Exhibiting produce at horticultural shows unearthed a network of clubs, societies and charities, with many inviting me to talk at their meetings. The Three Counties Show in June, held at the foot of the Malvern Hills, remains as one of my favourite weekends of the year.
While attending a fundraising event for Plant Heritage I was introduced to historians Jane Kilpatrick and Tim Richardson. Reading their books ignited an interest in garden and architectural history. Discovering the stories of the people, villages and houses that shaped the Cotswolds ultimately inspired these tours.
